In October 2019, Mindfield Biosystems conducted comparison measurements between the eSense Pulse and the clinical ECG monitor Faros 180. The results show very high agreement of RR intervals between both systems.
Methodology
All measurements were performed on the same subject, with both devices worn simultaneously: the eSense Pulse and the Faros 180 each as a chest strap ECG.
| Property | eSense Pulse | Faros 180 |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer | Mindfield Biosystems | Bittium (formerly Mega Electronics) |
| Measurement method | ECG (1-channel) at the chest | ECG (1-channel) at the chest |
| Application | Mobile HRV biofeedback | Clinical long-term ECG recording |
| Certification | CE | CE, FDA |
| Sampling rate | 500 Hz ECG | 1000 Hz ECG |
| Price range | €150 | €1,069 |
Measurement Setup
Three 10-minute measurements were conducted. The RR intervals from both devices were subsequently overlaid in Excel.
Results
Measurement 2: 10 minutes, quiet sitting
The RR intervals of both systems are nearly identical. Both curves capture the same heart rate fluctuations exactly in the same temporal sequence.
Measurement 3: 10 minutes, with correction factor 1.02
The third measurement also shows excellent agreement between both systems. Minimal deviations are in the range of a few milliseconds and are not relevant for HRV analysis.
Conclusion
Comparison Results
The RR intervals of the eSense Pulse and the clinical ECG monitor Faros 180 show near-perfect agreement. The eSense Pulse delivers comparable data quality for HRV biofeedback and HRV analysis as a clinical ECG system — at a fraction of the cost and with significantly easier handling.
The accuracy of the eSense Pulse is also confirmed by independent scientific studies in which the device is used for HRV-based research — including at the University Medical Center Mainz and Virginia Commonwealth University.

These comparison measurements were conducted by Mindfield Biosystems in their own laboratory. Both devices — eSense Pulse and Faros 180 — are available in the Mindfield Shop.
