eSense Comparison

All the Mindfield eSense are designed to address the common signs of stress by balancing the nervous system. All eSense are utilizing our sophisticated eSense app. A comprehensive, home based system designed to combat stress and tension and increase calm relaxation.

However, when it comes to stress and tension, people perceive different stimuli. To maximize the benefit of your home training, select the eSense sensor that meets your needs:

The eSense sensors can be combined with each other with restrictions. You can use this combination in our eSense App in a Free Training as well as in a Procedure. The eSense Pulse can be combined with the eSense Skin Response, the eSense Temperature or the eSense Respiration.

eSense Skin Response

The rapid action eSense Skin Response sensor works to address and combat an over activate fight and flight response, as shown by the sweat levels on the finger tips. Choose the Skin Response senor to combat these signs of stress:

  • Sweaty hands
  • Anxious, distracted thoughts
  • Agitated mood
  • Low anger threshold
  • Poor Impulse Control

The Mindfield eSense Skin Response is a small sensor to measure your skin conductance using the microphone input of your smartphone or tablet (Android or Apple iOS).

The skin conductance depends on the activity of the sweat glands of the skin and reacts to the smallest changes, which we can’t detect as wet hands yet.

The sweat glands are controlled by the vegetative (sympathetic) nervous system and react directly to the smallest emotional, physical or mental changes. A rise in skin conductance is clearly visible under the influence of stress. Stress factors may be, for example, mental activity, emotional arousal, deep inhalation or frightening.

Even the smallest changes are made visible with the aid of the app, and can be used for biofeedback training to reduce stress.

eSense Temperature

The eSense Temperature is our slow response time sensor, designed to monitor and train the slower physiological aspects of stress. The skin temperature which increases as stress diminishes. Consider using the eSense Temperature to improve:

  • Cold hands or feet
  • General stress and tension
  • Poor circulation
  • Blood pressure fluctuations
  • Increase depth of meditation

The eSense Temperature is a small sensor for measuring your skin temperature with the microphone input of your smartphone or tablet (Android or Apple iOS).

The skin temperature on the hands is directly related to tension or relaxation. Under stress we tend to have cold hands.

The skin’s surface temperature changes according to blood circulation through body tissue. The small blood vessels (arterioles) crossing through the tissue are surrounded by fibers of smooth muscle controlled by the sympathetic nervous system.

In a state of increased exertion, excitement and stress, these muscle fibers contract and narrow the blood vessels. This leads to a reduction of skin temperature because blood circulation through the tissue is reduced. By contrast, in a resting or calm state, the muscles relax and the blood vessels expand. The skin temperature rises.

eSense Pulse

The eSense Pulse helps regulate the nervous system by balancing the crucial dynamic interaction between the heart beat and the breath. Choose our eSense Pulse Sensor to combat:

  • Rapid heartbeat, chest tightnes
  • Chronic generalized stress
  • Difficulties relaxing
  • Rapid shallow breathing
  • Low daily energy

The heartbeat is related to tension and relaxation and is a potential stress indicator.

Heart rate variability (HRV) refers to the ability to change the frequency of the heart rhythm. Even at rest, there are spontaneous changes in the time between heartbeats.

healthy person constantly adapts the heart rhythm to current requirements. In addition to physical exertion, such as sport or physical work, psychological exertion such as stress also results in an increase in the heart rate. The heart rate sinks again when the strain is relieved and the body relaxes. In humans, heart rate variability ranges from 10 (low, a sign of stress) to 30 (high, a sign of relaxation).

eSense Respiration

The eSense Respiration trains control and optimization of the breath cycle. The eSense respiration is also used in the peak training of athletes, meditators and musicians. Consider using the eSense Respiration to improve:

  • Fast shallow breathing
  • Hyperventilation
  • Lightheadedness
  • Train abdominal breathing
  • Balance breath cycle

The Mindfield eSense Respiration is a small sensor to measure your breathing with your smartphone or tablet (Android or Apple iOS).

Breathing is special because we can consciously control this parameter. Other typical biofeedback parameters do not have this option, they are vegetatively controlled. This makes breathing as biofeedback training a particularly suitable option for beginners.

Our state of mind is reflected in our breathing. If we are pleased or tense, we usually breathe quickly, irregularly and flatly. Positive as well as negative stress is reflected in this way. If, on the other hand, we are relaxed and calm or sleepy, our breathing is usually slow, even and deep.

eSense Muscle

Use the eSense Muscle for:

  • Training of your muscles
  • Strengthening of your muscles
  • Relaxation of typical stress muscles (forehead, jaw, shoulder, neck)
  • Reduction of muscle tension
  • Coordination exercises
  • Muscle building

The musculature of the human being plays an essential role in the body. Our muscles are the largest energy consumer and are responsible for about 70- 80% of our body weight. Muscle activity is manifested along the fibers of a striated muscle in the form of permanent, electrical potential shifts. This electrical activity can be measured at the skin surface in the form of more considerable summation potentials. This form of measurement is called (surface) electromyography, and the result is an electromyogram.

The eSense Muscle can measure and train electromyographic muscle activity and transmit it to your computer/smartphone/tablet via Bluetooth®.

Transverse striated muscles are controlled by our somatic nervous system and are subject to voluntary control. Every volitional action of a muscle can therefore be observed in an electromyogram. Thus, the tension of a muscle on 27 which surface EMG electrodes are placed immediately leads to increased trace in the EMG signal.

However, involuntary reactions, such as stress, inner tension, and emotional experience, can also be measured as (tonic) activity in the EMG. EMG biofeedback can also report back the general psychophysiological tension.

The interplay between the autonomic and somatic nervous systems can be depicted particularly well in the EMG. Increased muscle tone is mainly based on an increase in sympathetic activity. A decrease can be attributed to more robust parasympathetic activation.

eSense Muscle

There are two versions of the eSense Muscle:

  • A professional version (Pro Edition) at full price with which EMG measurements can be performed with 2 channels. The web app, the mobile app for iOS and Android, all games and the oscilloscope are available
  • A private version (Home Edition) at a reduced price with which EMG measurements can be performed with 1 channel. The web app and the games are available.

While the professional version is aimed at professional biofeedback trainers, the private version enables the personal use at an affordable price.

eSense EEGenius

Use the eSense EEGenius for:

  • Improvement of attention and concentration
  • Improvement of cognitive skills
  • Training of calmness, composure and relaxation
  • Reduction of restlessness and nervousness
  • Improving the quality of sleep

The Mindfield® eSense EEGenius is a new, state-of-the-art EEG device for home neurofeedback training. It was developed specifically for easy, intuitive use by end users after extensive planning and testing.

Premade, included training programs are oriented to these goals, but it is also possible for so-called supervisors – professional users who can supervise end users – to create and evaluate their own, user-specific training protocols.

The device connects directly to a web browser via Bluetooth® and training software can be launched and set up over the Internet. A special, newly developed cap allows easy and quick placement of a measurement electrode on the head (Cz & other positions) and two ear clips form the reference and ground electrode.
